Decolonial ELT A Reading Group for Teachers
A space to look again — and see what we were never taught to notice.
Mainstream ELT materials choose to reinforce only one side of the story.
They present the Western world as the default world.
And in doing so, they make many of our students invisible.
"Once I realized it,
I couldn't unsee it."

Why This Reading Group Exists
This group is a space for teachers who want to:
-
Look critically at ELT materials — without guilt, fear, or isolation.
-
Understand how narratives are constructed and whose stories are left out.
-
Ask better, open-ended questions that help students read the world, not just the language.
-
Explore English through global, diverse, and real lenses.
-
Think collectively about what inclusive teaching looks like in everyday practice.
You don’t need to know anything about decoloniality to join. You only need a willingness to look again.
